Gera station = five brothers, a family business and 2,050 meters above sea level.

The Gera washing station is located in the Gera woreda of Djimma, Ethiopia – run by five brothers, the second generation of producers who took it over from their parents 5 years ago. 20 people work here year-round, scaling up to 80 during the harvest season from October to December. The coffee grows in the shade of false banana trees, farmed organically by many smallholders in the area without synthetic fertilizers. Ripe cherries are handpicked by seasonal workers and sun-dried for 12–16 days after processing until the ideal moisture content is reached. SCA score 86.75.

Why you’ll love it

Kumquat and lemon bring a lively, fresh acidity, while dark oolong gives the cup structure and depth you don’t always expect from a washed Ethiopia. A coffee that surprises – in the right way.

Made by TRIGGER

We roasted Gera for filter to highlight that tea-fruit profile that washed Ethiopias do like no other origin. Roasted in Warsaw with clarity and transparency in mind.

Gera is a distinctive washed Ethiopia that's hard to overlook. Kumquat and lemon build a lively acidity, while dark oolong keeps it all in check and gives the cup its tea-like character.

Clean, transparent and with personality. An unexpected cup that's hard to put down.

Best as filter – v60 or chemex, coarser grind, water around 91–93°C. The kumquat acidity and citrus notes come through clearly, while the oolong structure holds everything together.

In aeropress it gets fuller and rounder – the oolong moves to the front, the acidity eases off a little. A different experience, still worth it. As it cools the cup becomes increasingly complex – the citrus gets livelier and the tea note more defined. Don't rush it.
